Good morning Star Families, On May 16, 2022 we were informed that a student in one of our 3-year-old Preschool Classes at Our Lady Star of the Sea School tested positive for COVID-19. The student is currently home isolating as per Wayne County Health Department guidelines. As per the new Wayne County Health Department COVID-19 protocols, Close Contacts do not need to quarantine at home, however we ask that parents monitor your student for COVID-19 symptoms. If your student develops COVID-19 related symptoms, including cold and allergy type symptoms, please keep them home from school and have them tested for COVID-19. If they are positive, please inform the school for directions on how to proceed with COVID-19 protocols. If they are not positive, we ask that they remain at home until they are feeling better. Please understand that we are unable to identify the individual due to federal medical privacy laws. COVID-19 is a contagious viral illness that spreads in the air through coughing, sneezing, and talking. Recent information suggests COVID-19 is spread by people who are not showing symptoms. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has a virus on it, then touching their own mouth, nose or possibly their eyes. Symptoms include fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, now loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea. We ask that students who exhibit any of the above mentioned symptoms be kept home from school and monitored for worsening symptoms, obtaining a COVID-19 PCR test if possible. Please remember to notify the school immediately upon receipt of a positive COVID-19 PCR test so we can take all necessary precautions at the school to prevent further exposures. Your assistance in helping us keep the school safe and healthy is greatly appreciated.
