Star Parents, We are so excited for the return of class Field Trips and the start of our class holiday parties. A few of our grades have already had gone on field trips and had great times!!! With these fun events back, I wanted to make sure to remind our school families Star’s procedures and processes. Field Trips With all the restrictions COVID we have been under these past 2+ years, we know parents are very excited to be having their students go on school field trips again, and to have the opportunity to go on field trips with their students. To help make the field trips happen, we do rely on parent volunteers to help drive and chaperone. Below are our Field Trip Procedures for Kindergarten through Eighth Grade classes with regards to parent chaperones from the Family Handbook: “Parent drivers and chaperones are one in the same. Parent chaperones will be assigned to drive their child and 1 to 2 other students, depending on the age of the students and the field trip location. Parent chaperones will be chosen on a first come first served basis. To allow all parents to have the opportunity to chaperone, we ask that parents only volunteer to drive if you have not driven for a field trip that year. Teachers will decide how many chaperones will be needed for each field trip. From chaperones selected, only one parent per family may chaperone a field trip. Names of previous chaperones who failed to abide by the Code of Conduct for Volunteers on any previous class/field trip or any volunteer position in the school will not be allowed to chaperone. Parents who are chaperones may not to bring other children/siblings on the trip.” One important note, if you are not designated as a chaperone on a field trip, your child will be assigned to be driven by another parent. We do respect if a parent does not want their child to be driven by another parent, however this may preclude them from joining their classmates on the field trip.
Class field trips are great educational and social opportunities for our students, and we want to continue to incorporate them into our school year. We appreciate parents’ support of Star’s procedures for parent chaperones so we can continue to plan these great events for our students. Class Holiday Parties Star’s Preschool through Fifth grade classes have class parties for Halloween, Christmas, and Valentines Day. Each year teachers ask a parent to be their Room Parent to assist in organizing and running these parties. While we understand that parents would like the opportunity to volunteer to help at the holiday parties however, we can not accommodate all parents to attend. For successful parties, we ask for the Room Parent to attend each party accompanied by 1 or 2 additional parent volunteers, depending on the teacher’s desire. Room Parents work with the teacher to create and send out Sign-Up Genius’s for parent volunteers and supply/food donation for each party. We ask that parents only volunteer for one party each year, allowing other parents the opportunity to volunteer. Unfortunately, not all parents will be able to volunteer at holiday parties but there are other opportunities at school when we ask for parents to help – drivers for field trips, lunch/recess monitors, etc. If parents are unable to help at a class party, we welcome them to sign up to help at lunch recess or at the many of our great PTO events. Our year so far has been a great year, and we are all looking forward to so many wonderful events for our students to enjoy with their classmates. Thank you for your continued support of Star! God bless, Mrs. Meghan Carter-Waid - Principal
