As many of you may already know, Grosse Pointe Public Schools have decided to close their schools tomorrow due to potential threats their schools have received today. I have been in contact with the Grosse Pointe Woods Police Department regarding these threats and their recommendation for the other schools in the Grosse Pointe area. They have recommended that while Star has not received any threats, out of an abundance of caution, that we should cancel school for tomorrow.
Monsignor and I have spoken at length about their recommendation and what would be best for our school community. Please know that we have not received any threats of any kind to our school or students, however we do understand that a threat to our community public schools may affect the anxiety level and concern of our students and families for their safety at school. With the strong recommendation by the GPWPD to have Star closed tomorrow and respecting the feelings that many of our students may be having about their safety, we will be closing school tomorrow.
Please know that our school is a very safe building with very strong and effective safety measures in place to ensure the safety of our students and staff. All of our exterior doors are locked at all times and there are security cameras in all exterior areas where students may be and at main entrances to the school. In addition, we have security cameras placed throughout the interior of the school in hallways by entrances to the school to ensure our every entrance to the school is monitored.
It is important that our students know they are safe when they are in school. The most important communicator of this is our parents. I have included a link below that helps parents and educators with how to talk to their children about school safety. Please take a moment to read THIS and help us communicate with your children how they are kept safe in school.
God bless all of our Star community and keep all of our families safe.
