Kindergarten

The Our Lady Star of the Sea Kindergarten program is aligned with the Archdiocese of Detroit curriculum and learning standards.  Our program is designed to meet the needs of the whole child: academically, spiritually, physically, emotionally, and socially.
 
Kindergarten

• The F.A.S.T. Phonics Program and Heggerty Phonemic Awareness are used in conjunction with one another to fully prepare students for reading.
• Whole group, small group, and centers instruction are used to build a love of reading.
• Children’s ideas are put onto paper beginning with drawings and eventually will develop into complete sentences.
• Zaner Bloser handwriting is used to promote fine motor skills, as well as introduce students to proper letter formation.
• Go Math curriculum teaches critical math skills and knowledge and promotes a significant growth in math ability.
• STREAM is incorporated into science and other subject areas, for hands-on learning.
• Social studies curriculum focuses on relationships between the children and others around them.
• We Believe Religion instills that God is with us always and promotes character building.
• A respect for the child and his/her individual learning strengths.
• A well-rounded school day that encourages learning through a blend of rich academics and fun.
• Art and fine motor skills are developed daily through hands-on projects and activities.
• Flexible seating arrangements encourage movement throughout the school day.
