Pastormsgr.smetankastargp.orgMsgr. Gary Smetanka, AB, M.Div., S.T.L., has been pastor of Our Lady Star of the Sea since 2008. Previously he was pastor at St. Thecla Parish in Clinton Township and, prior to that, Director of Undergraduate Seminarians at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. He has a bachelor degree in Philosophy from Sacred Heart Seminary, a Master of Divinity degree from St. John’s Seminary, and a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He is Chair of the Worship Commission for the Archdiocese of Detroit and was made a monsignor (chaplain to His Holiness) by Pope Benedict in December of 2012.
